The British 50th Infantry Division, supported by the Navy and specialized tanks, led the Allied landings at Gold Beach. In the first four to five hours, the 50th Division suffered around 1,000 casualties, with nearly 400 killed.
British troops were only able to leave the beach and advance to more sheltered terrain after about five hours of combat. The Allies landed on five beaches: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword.
In total, the Allied forces had about 10,000 casualties, with nearly 4,500 killed, on June 6th 1944. This blood was shed by heroes, whose grandsons are now nothing but despicable cowards who order a British citizen to leave a street, while walking her dog, because the dog 'could offend Muslims'."
