Official crime statistics in Germany do confirm an increase of nearly 13 percent in sexual assault and rape cases in 2016 compared to the previous year – with 9.2 percent of the overall number of assailants reported as Syrian nationals and 8.6 percent as Afghan nationals. In total, 38.8 percent of those convicted of sexual assault and rape were reported as non-German nationals. This means that roughly 4 out of 10 sexual assaults and rape cases each year are committed by foreigners in Germany. Before the refugee crisis, that ratio was 3 out of 10.

Sweden rape: Most convicted attackers foreign-born, says TV

About 58% of men convicted in Sweden of rape and attempted rape over the past five years were born abroad, according to data from Swedish national TV.
Public broadcaster SVT said it had counted all court convictions to present a complete picture in Sweden.
But Sweden had thousands more reported rapes, and there is no ethnic breakdown for those.
Immigration and crime are major issues in Sweden's general election campaign. The vote is on 9 September.
The anti-immigration Sweden Democrats hope to make significant ground, although they have slipped to third place in the latest opinion poll.

Ten men, mostly Syrian refugees, have been found guilty over the gang rape of a woman outside a German nightclub.

Eight of the men on trial were refugees from Syria, while the other three came from Iraq, Afghanistan and Germany.
After the attack - which came following other high-profile attacks committed by immigrants - the anti-Islam Alternative for Germany took to the streets to protest against Chancellor Angela Merkel's liberal policy towards migrants.
Ms Merkel received both widespread praise and criticism for her "open door" policy. She has since admitted that Germany was ill-prepared for the influx.

Labour council leader called rape gang victims ‘white trash’

 

A Labour Council leader referred to the victims of sexual exploitation gangs as 'white trash' in a slew of late-night messages to a young councillor.

Dennis Jones, the leader of Peterborough City Council, made the comments in late-night exchanges with a younger councillor, Daisy Blakemore Creedon.

When she raised concerns about immigration and women’s safety, Jones lashed out: “Oh so white British cops f*****g poor white trash in Rotherham is OK, is it? Get a f*****g grip, Daisy.”

He went on to accuse her of chasing “populist votes and attention”, adding: “I wish you no luck at all.”

Moments later, in a separate exchange, Jones appeared to mock the younger councillor, saying: “Give them your sweetest pout. And see above for likely outcome lol.”

The gross comments sparked immediate outrage, with demands Labour take disciplinary action, and that Jones resign.

Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Philp MP described the comments as "truly abhorrent" saying "Peterborough is one of the 50 towns and cities identified as somewhere these disgusting rape gangs are believed to have operated.”

He added: “Victims and survivors have been let down by this Labour Government who had to be dragged kicking and screaming every step of the way. The Prime Minister disgracefully smeared as ‘far-right’ those supporting calls for a proper inquiry.

Philp called for Jones to be expelled from the Labour Party saying: "If Keir Starmer is serious about protecting victims, he will immediately expel this despicable man.”

Joining the criticism was independent MP, Rupert Lowe, who launched his own enquiry into Grooming Gangs across the UK earlier this year. He blasted Jones, calling the comments “disgusting” and “sickening”.

He added: “[Jones] should be turfed out of office. If he had any respect, he would resign today.”

Lowe suggested that grooming gangs could be “an issue in Peterborough too” and that Daisy was “doing superb work raising awareness and pushing for change.”

He added: “Our Rape Gang Inquiry has uncovered evidence of rape gang activity Peterborough, and it was one of the 85 authorities we named last week.”

Lowe suggested he wasn't surprised that “this evil has flourished with such contemptuous individuals running local government? He should resign today.”

    Foreign-Born Population: In 2024, more than 2.2 million people living in Sweden were born in another country.

Percentage of the Population: This figure represents approximately 20% of Sweden's total population.

It is also important to note that if you include people born in Sweden to two parents who were born abroad, the number is higher. In 2024, approximately 32% of Sweden's population had at least one parent born abroad.

According to reports from the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå), Sweden's official criminal statistics agency, there is an overrepresentation of foreigners and people with at least one parent born abroad in sexual crime statistics.

Main Conclusions of the Reports:

The Brå reports, which analyze crime data by place of birth and nationality, show the following:

    Foreign-born individuals: They have a 2.5 times higher risk of being registered as a suspect for sexual crimes (including rape) than people born in Sweden to two Swedish parents.

    Individuals born in Sweden with at least one parent born abroad: The risk of being suspected of sexual crimes is 1.7 times higher than that of the native population.

The number of sexual crimes committed by foreign-born individuals is higher than their proportion of the total population.

Our findings reveal a strong link between immigrant background and rape convictions that remains after statistical adjustment. The mechanisms behind the overrepresentation of individuals with an immigrant background among those convicted of rape+ need further exploration.

While extensive research exists on the severe consequences among rape victims, little is known about specific predictors in relation to rape convictions among immigrants to Europe. This study from Sweden (having one of Europe’s highest per capita rates of rape) investigates individuals convicted of rape, aggravated rape, attempted rape, or attempted aggravated rape, collectively termed as rape+, against women 18 years or older, from 2000 to 2020. In this case-control study, we analyzed data from Swedish population-based registers. The analysis includes 4,032 individuals convicted of rape+ and 20,160 matched controls.

Using the rate per 100,000 inhabitants, a consistent pattern of overrepresentation of non-nationals, particularly those from outside the EU, can be observed across many member states.

General Crime (All Offenses)

In countries like Germany, Austria, and France, the rate of non-national suspected offenders per 100,000 of their population is significantly higher than the rate for nationals.

• Germany (2023 data): The rate of suspected non-national offenders was approximately 3 to 4 times higher than for German nationals.

• Austria (2023 data): The rate of suspected non-national offenders was roughly 2.5 times higher than for Austrian nationals.

  Sweden: According to a 2021 study by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå), people born abroad were 2.5 times more likely to be registered as a crime suspect than those born in Sweden to two native-born parents. Six Candidates For Germany’s Right-Wing AfD Party Die In 13 Days

 

The German right-wing party Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) has experienced the sudden deaths of four candidates and two reserve candidates within 13 days leading up to the North Rhine-Westphalia elections Sept. 14.

Authorities have clarified that there is no suspicion of foul play in any of the deaths, the BBC reported Tuesday. The deceased include Ralph Lange, 66; Wolfgang Klinger, 71; Stefan Berendes, 59; and Wolfgang Seitz, 59, along with two reserves, all passing within the same two-week period, according to the European Conservative. 

Preliminary statements from German officials suggest natural causes in two cases, while other causes have yet to be disclosed, the BBC reported. Germany’s interior ministry said that other candidates from the country’s Social Democrats and Greens parties also died within this timeframe.

Despite the sudden disruption, initial expectations were that the AfD would not pose a significant challenge in the September elections, according to the European Conservative.

The AfD has achieved a notable rise in political support since the 2022 elections, climbing from 5.4% to 16.8% in polls within North Rhine-Westphalia, the BBC reported. The area, with a population of 18 million, will see around 20,000 candidates in September’s electoral cycle.
