— Mayor Wilson’s transition team has instructed Seattle Police Department to 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐫𝐮𝐠 𝐮𝐬𝐞 in city limits.

— The decriminalization framework follows the Oregon Measure 110 model, which Oregon voters 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐝 after drug deaths and street-encampment levels exploded.

— Seattle’s 2023 SODA (Stay Out of Drug Area) law and the city’s drug-court diversion program have been the prior framework. Wilson is dismantling them.

— The framework Wilson is replicating is the same one Portland walked back after a 3x increase in overdose deaths between 2020 and 2024.
