Salam Alaikum, may the peace, mercy, and blessing of Allah be upon you. I am in the Algarve, I am in a city called Faro and the statue you can see behind me is of King Dom Afonso III.
He
was the fifth king of Portugal and he was the one who is important in
Islamic history for all the wrong reasons, I think. He was
responsible for the conquest of these lands, which were
Muslim lands.
And,
when he took these lands, he actually put an end to the kind, he put an end to Muslim rule in these lands, so in Spain and in
Portugal, these kinds of areas.
And
then, two centuries later, as we know, Muslims and Jews were expelled
from here. They were either forced to convert, some were killed but
they were also expelled from these lands as well.
So
he is, he is an important figure in historically and they put a
statue of him here. Many people don't know his history because a lot of the history is not really talked about in these land.

Muçulmano comenta existência de estátua de Afonso III, em Faro
Salam Aleikum, que a paz, a misericórdia e a benção de Alá estejam convosco. Estou no Algarve, estou numa cidade chamada Faro e a estátua que podem ver, atrás de mim é do Rei D.Afonso III.
Ele foi o quinto rei de Portugal e ele foi aquele que é importante na história islâmica por todos os motivos errados, acho eu. Ele foi responsável pela conquista destas terras, que eram terras muçulmanas.
E, quando ele tomou essas terras, ele acabou realmente com o tipo de fim, ele acabou com o domínio muçulmano nessas terras, então na Espanha e em Portugal, este tipo de áreas.
E então, dois séculos depois, como sabemos, muçulmanos e judeus foram expulsos daqui. Eles foram ou forçados a se converter, alguns foram mortos mas eles também foram expulsos destas terras também.
Então ele é, ele é uma figura importante em... historicamente e eles colocaram uma estátua dele aqui. Muitas pessoas não conhecem a história dele porque muita da história não é realmente falada nestas terras.
