"Covering one's hair here so as not to offend believers": in Rosny-sous-Bois, the female mayor wears a veil at the mosque

  

The images of the socialist mayor of Rosny-sous-Bois wearing an Islamic veil in the city's grand mosque, during her address to the faithful, are sparking reactions. They raise questions as the respect for secularism (laïcité) appears to be compromised.

"We would like to thank Madame Mayor, this is a first in Rosny, it is the first time the mayor is a woman, it is an honor for all women! It is a mission that awaits her, a mandate that requires a lot of responsibility, a lot of effort (...)"
