Europe is a continent that is often associated with safety, quality of life and historic cities that look like something out of a fairy tale. But the reality, as always, is nuanced. Although many of its capitals and major cities are among the most visited in the world, there are also cities where the perception of crime is worrying, and the indices confirm this.
From theft and vandalism to drug trafficking and street violence, some European destinations have higher levels of crime than you might imagine. And no, we're not just talking about the East of the continent or obscure capitals: there are plenty of French, British and Italian cities in the ranking.
