Crime and foreigners in Germany (2023/2024)

 



Official German statistics for 2023 show an increase in overall crime (5.5% more crimes) and suspects (7.3% rise).
Foreigners constituted 41% of suspects (an increase of 17.8%), and asylum seekers (excluding Ukrainian refugees) made up 18% of offenders.
Violent crimes reached a 15-year high, with increases in robberies and knife crimes. Knife crimes nearly tripled between 2020 and 2023.
Statistics from North Rhine-Westphalia showed high percentages of foreigners involved in pickpocketing (80.1%), shoplifting (47.6%), burglaries        
(47.3%), homicide suspects (41.6%), and suspects in violent sex crimes (37.1%). An internal of the German police study indicated that asylum-seekers (making up 2.5% of the population) were suspects in 13.1% of sexual assault cases in 2021. In 2023, 47.5% of suspects in gang-rapes were foreigners.
